What the AI features actually do
Kudo uses a model in five places, and it is worth knowing exactly what each one is allowed to write — because the answer is never "a review".
The Free plan has none of them. Pro has the conversational form and the page summary. AI Pro adds reply drafts and review insights on top.
The conversational review form (Pro, AI Pro)
Instead of one box asking "how was it?", the form asks a short question, reads the answer, and asks a follow-up written from what the customer just said. It stops after three questions, or earlier if the customer has stopped adding anything.
The point is not novelty. A review saying "great service" tells a future customer nothing; a review saying the fitter arrived at seven in the morning and left the hallway clean is the one that books the next job. The follow-up is what gets the second version.
It is one setting, not a second link. Your review link and printed QR code stay the same and simply open whichever form is currently chosen, so switching does not invalidate anything you printed.
Reply drafts (AI Pro)
A first draft of a reply to one review, written into the box you were going to type into. It does not send, and it will not promise a refund, a discount, an amount or a deadline — you are the one who has to honour the reply, so it does not commit you to anything.
The summary above your reviews (Pro, AI Pro)
Three lines saying what customers bring up most, sitting above the reviews on your public page.
Two rules make it safe to put on a public page. Each point carries the reviews it came from, so a claim about your business is checkable rather than an assertion — and a summary that cites something not actually in your reviews is thrown away rather than published. And it needs at least five published reviews, because three lines drawn from two reviews is not a summary of anything.
It is generated unpublished. You read it, and it goes live only when you say so. Regenerating it does not silently replace what is already public, because the wording you approved is the wording you approved.
Review insights (AI Pro)
The Insights screen groups your reviews into what customers love, what they complain about, and what to fix — over the whole set rather than one review at a time. The free charts on the same screen (rating over time, volume, sources) are on every plan; the written analysis is the AI Pro part.
This one is for you, not for visitors. Nothing on it appears on your public page, deliberately: a page that published its own weak points to anyone with the link would be a strange thing to sell.
What none of them do
They do not write reviews. There is no feature anywhere in Kudo that invents a review, fills a new page with samples, or improves what somebody wrote. A page with no reviews shows as a page with no reviews.
They do not edit a review. The words stay exactly as the customer typed them, including in the structured data search engines read. Where Kudo translates a review for an international visitor, the translation sits beside the original and is labelled as a translation — it does not replace it, and it is never presented as the customer's own words in another language.
They do not decide what publishes. Approval is yours, or it is the rating threshold you set. No model is in that path.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Pro and AI Pro?
Pro has the conversational form, the page summary, photo reviews and review requests, both the ones you send by hand and the ones sent automatically after an order. AI Pro adds reply drafts, the written review insights, video reviews and questions and answers on your page. Removing the "Powered by Kudo" badge is Pro, not AI Pro.
Do I have to use the conversational form?
No. The classic form is on every plan and stays the default. Choosing between them is one setting, and your link does not change either way.
Can I edit the summary before it goes public?
You approve it before it publishes, and you can regenerate it. Regenerating does not replace the live wording until you publish the new one.
Why does my summary not appear?
It needs five published reviews, and it needs to be published — it is generated unpublished on purpose.
Does Kudo use my reviews to train an AI model?
No. Your reviews are read to produce your own summary, insights or draft, and nothing else.
