Reviews on the product page, not on a page nobody visits
A shopper decides on the product page with their thumb over Add to cart. That is the only screen a reviews app has to win, and it is the one most of them treat as an afterthought.
- Add the Kudo section from the theme editor. No code, no Liquid, no developer
- Stars on collection pages too, drawn by your own theme from the standard rating metafields — no script per card
- A Google Merchant Center feed, so your ratings can show in Google Shopping
- Shopper questions answered on the product page, where the objection is
- The review request goes out days after delivery, not after checkout
The metafields matter more than the widget
Kudo writes the two standard rating metafields Shopify defines, which is what lets your theme draw stars on product and collection pages with no script at all, and what Search & Discovery and filter apps read. A widget can only ever render where you place it; the metafields reach every card in the grid.
A reviews app should not cost you the sale it was bought to make
The widget renders inside a shadow root, so your theme’s CSS cannot rearrange it and it cannot touch your theme. It downloads no webfont and ships minified. Kilobytes on a product page are conversions.
Free means free, including the widget
The import, the collection form, 5 published reviews, a working widget on four layouts and the star rating badge beside your price are all on the free plan, with a small "Powered by Kudo" badge. A product with no reviews yet shows your store's reviews instead of an empty box. A free plan that gives you the app and withholds the part that shows reviews is a trial with a different name.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a developer to install it?
No. Kudo ships as a Shopify theme app extension, so you add the reviews section from the theme editor the same way you add any other section. The collection-page stars are a snippet you paste into your theme once, and the docs say plainly where that does and does not work.
Can I import the reviews I already have?
Yes. A CSV from whatever app you are leaving, and your Google reviews from the listing. The Google connection then keeps running on a schedule instead of being a one-off.
Will the stars show up in Google?
Your product pages carry review structured data, and Kudo gives you a Google Merchant Center feed of ratings and reviews for Google Shopping. Google decides what it shows, as it does for every store, but the data is there and correctly formed.
