How to Add Google Reviews to a Squarespace Site
Short answer: Squarespace has no built-in way to show your Google reviews, so you add them with a review widget pasted into a Code Block set to HTML mode. That only works on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, because Squarespace runs JavaScript in a Code Block on those plans only. On any plan, you can instead link a button to a review page that shows your Google reviews.
Which of the two you pick depends on your Squarespace plan and on how much you want the reviews inside your own pages.
Does Squarespace have its own reviews feature?
Squarespace does have customer reviews, but they are store reviews, not Google reviews. According to Squarespace's help article on customer reviews, review requests are tied to orders placed through your Squarespace store, reviews appear in tabs at the bottom of product pages, and the only import source is Etsy.
That makes Squarespace customer reviews useful for an online shop and not much use to a salon, a café or a clinic. Squarespace's customer reviews feature has no option to pull in Google reviews, and in-person sales through Squarespace's point of sale don't send a review request at all.
If your reviews live on your Google Business Profile, you need something that brings them onto the page.
Which Squarespace plans can run a Google reviews widget?
Squarespace's help article on Code Blocks says that adding JavaScript or an iframe to a Code Block needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan. Every Google reviews widget is a small script, so on the Basic plan the widget's code is saved but never runs.
That failure is silent. The page publishes, nothing shows where the reviews should be, and no error tells you why. If you paste a widget into a Squarespace site and see a blank space, check your plan before you check the code.
How to add a Google reviews widget to Squarespace
1. Get the embed code from your review tool
Every widget tool gives you a short snippet, usually one line that loads a script and one element where the reviews appear. Copy the whole snippet.
2. Add a Code Block to the page
Open the page in the Squarespace editor, click to add a block where the reviews should go, and choose Code.
3. Set the Code Block to HTML mode and paste
In the Code Block's settings, set Mode to HTML and paste the snippet. Squarespace shows code as plain text in the other modes, so a widget pasted in the wrong mode prints its own source code on your page.
4. Save, then check the page logged out
Squarespace may not run custom code while you are logged in to the editor, for security reasons. Open the live page in a private window, or use Preview in Safe Mode, to see what a visitor sees.
5. Check the page on a phone
Squarespace's editor lets you adjust how blocks sit on mobile. A widget in a narrow column on desktop can sit very differently on a phone, so look at the live page on an actual phone before you call it done.
Why a Squarespace widget shows up blank
The plan is below Core. The Code Block saves the script but doesn't run it.
The Code Block isn't in HTML mode. The snippet appears as text, or not at all.
You are logged in. Squarespace may hide custom code from the logged-in editor. Check the page in a private window.
The page sits inside an index page, or Ajax loading is on. Squarespace's own help article warns that code on a page inside an index page, or on a site with Ajax loading enabled, may not render.
How to show Google reviews on Squarespace without code
If your site is on the Basic plan, or you simply don't want a script on your site, use a review page instead of a widget.
A review page is a single public page that shows your reviews, with its own link. You add a button or a navigation link on your Squarespace site that points to it. A button and a link work on every Squarespace plan, because no script runs on your site.
The trade-off is that the reviews sit one click away instead of on the page itself. For a visitor checking whether you are any good, one tap to "See our Google reviews" is still far better than nothing, and better than a block of reviews typed out by hand.
Why not type the reviews into a text or quote block?
You can paste review text into a Squarespace text or quote block, and it costs nothing. It also goes stale the day you publish it. New Google reviews never arrive, an old review with no date reads as old, and someone has to remember to update the block by hand.
Hand-copied reviews also can't be checked by a visitor. A widget or a review page that shows the reviewer's name and the date reads as real in a way a pasted quote doesn't.
Where to put Google reviews on a Squarespace site
Below the first section of your home page. One row of three reviews, not fifteen.
Beside your prices or services. It's the moment a visitor is deciding whether you are worth it.
Above your contact or booking form. A short review there answers the question a visitor has right before they get in touch.

Using Kudo on a Squarespace site
Kudo gives you both routes from one account. Your Kudo page is a review page at getkudo.co with your links and your Google reviews underneath, and the same account gives you a widget to paste into a Squarespace Code Block.
On the Free plan, Kudo imports your Google reviews once and publishes up to 5 reviews, and the widget works on four list layouts plus a star rating badge, with a "Powered by Kudo" line that stays on. Pro, at $7.99 a month, keeps your Google reviews in sync on a schedule, publishes every review, opens the other layouts and removes the Kudo line. In the Kudo dashboard, open Widgets, choose where the reviews go, and copy the embed code into your Code Block.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add Google reviews to Squarespace for free?
Yes, with limits. A review page link works on every Squarespace plan, and several widget tools have free tiers that keep their own branding. A widget still needs Squarespace's Core plan or higher, because the Basic plan doesn't run JavaScript in a Code Block.
Does Squarespace have a Google reviews block?
No. Squarespace's built-in customer reviews are for products bought through your Squarespace store, and they import from Etsy only. Showing Google reviews takes a third-party widget or a link to a review page.
Why does my reviews widget show up blank on Squarespace?
The usual causes are a plan below Core, a Code Block that isn't set to HTML mode, checking the page while logged in, or code placed on a page inside an index page. Check the live page in a private window first.
Will a reviews widget put stars next to my Squarespace site in Google?
Don't count on it. Google's review snippet guidelines exclude a business marking up reviews of itself, and the stars beside a local business in Google come from its Google Business Profile.
Do I need to update the reviews by hand?
Not with a widget or a review page that syncs from Google. Reviews typed into a text block are the only option that needs updating by hand.
